About the Event

Riccardo Minasi leads the Concertgebouw Orchestra through Beethoven’s iconic Fifth Symphony, with the program kicking off with Emilie Mayer’s Faust Overture. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 is brought to life by the brilliant Mao Fujita.

Beethoven's Fifth
Arguably, no four notes in music are more famous than the ‘da‐da‐da‐daaaa’ motif of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, reminiscent of a door knock. This motif forms the basis for an ingenious structure that remains as compelling as it was over 200 years ago. Riccardo Minasi will guide the Concertgebouw Orchestra through this exhilarating masterpiece from the early 1800s.

Mao Fujita plays Mozart
The concert opens with Emilie Mayer’s Faust Overture, a piece once celebrated in the early 1880s before falling into obscurity. Experience its brilliance firsthand. This is followed by Mao Fujita’s return, fresh from a praised 2023 Concertgebouw debut with Rachmaninoff’s First Piano Concerto, where NRC lauded his ‘clarity, richness of colour, and finesse.’ His encore, Mozart’s ‘Sonata facile,’ dazzled the audience. His upcoming interpretation of Mozart’s elegant Piano Concerto No. 25 promises to be exceptional. With its meditative slow movement, Mozart showcases an impressive range, both in the piano and orchestra.
