About the Event

Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Amsterdam's breathtaking De Waalse Kerk for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of music.

Chamber Choir PA'dam and De Waalse Kerk present some of Bach's most beautiful cantatas in the series “Bach on Friday.” Each concert will focus on one cantata, always showing Bach in a different light. You will also hear a work by a female composer at each concert. Start your weekend off right with perhaps the greatest composer who ever lived: Johann Sebastian Bach.

Clara Schumann: a female pioneer in the world of classical music
On March 8, we will celebrate International Women's Day with a special edition of Bach on Friday: an ode to Clara Schumann. Clara Schumann (1819‐1896) was much more than just the wife of Robert Schumann she was a renowned pianist, composer and an important figure within Romantic music. From an early age, she performed as a virtuoso and remained active on the stage throughout her life. Her compositions include piano works, songs and a piano concerto, and she is increasingly recognized as one of the leading female composers in music history.

About Bach on Friday
What was Johann Sebastian Bach's influence on composers centuries after him? And what did the works of other members of the Bach family sound like? Get to know Bach and gems by other composers better with chamber choir PA'dam and the Nicolaas Consort. In a carefully composed program by artistic director Maria van Nieukerken and organist Wim Dijkstra, you will not only have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful music, but you will also learn more about the composers themselves.
