About the Event

With their perfect, crystal‐clear voices, the famous Vienna Boys' Choir captivates audiences everywhere.
In their Christmas concert 'Every year again', they present Advent and Christmas carols alongside classical works.
The Vienna Boys' Choir is the oldest boys' choir in the world that does not belong to a church. They are an institution in the history of music and can look back on over 500 years of tradition. From the very beginning, they have been active as musical ambassadors: As early as the 15th century, the first choirboys accompanied Emperor Maximilian I to imperial diets.
Joseph and Michael Haydn and Franz Schubert sang in the choir as boys Anton Bruckner was their singing and piano teacher.
Today, the Vienna Boys' Choir performs on Sundays with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera Chorus in the Hofburgkapelle in Vienna. They can be heard time and again at major orchestral concerts under conductors such as Joana Mallwitz, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Franz Welser‐Möst and Simone Young. Highlights include performances at the Salzburg Festival and at the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert.
The Vienna Boys' Choir is one of the few ensembles whose fame spans the globe. They regularly go on concert tours and delight audiences all over the world. The choir has received numerous prizes and awards time and again. The choir has received the coveted Grammy — the 'Music Oscar' — twice.

Choir: Vienna Boys' Choir/ Wiener Sängerknaben

Today the Vienna Boys' Choir consists of around 100 choristers between the ages of ten and fourteen, divided into four touring choirs. The four choirs give around 300 concerts and performances each year in front of almost half a million people. Each group spends nine to eleven weeks of the school year on tour. They visit virtually all European countries, and they are frequent guests in Asia, Australia and the Americas.

Together with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera Chorus, the Wiener Sängerknaben maintain the tradition of the imperial musicians: as Hofmusikkapelle they provide the music for the Sunday Mass in Vienna's Imperial Chapel, as they have done since 1498.
