About the Event
In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Brahms, Grieg, Elgar and Schumann at Barcelona's treasured and world‐renowned Palau de la Música Catalana.
In collaboration with the Franz Schubert Association of Barcelona and the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical, Palau de la Música presents a recital featuring Scottish mezzo‐soprano Catriona Morrison and pianist Julius Drake, one of the most experienced pianists in the Lieder repertoire. The concert programme is a glimpse into the catalogue of four composers who best represent this genre: Grieg, Schumann — with one of his most moving works, Op. 90 -, Brahms and Elgar.
Johannes Brahms was a German composer and pianist of the 19th century who influenced the music of the Romantic period. He composed for voice, piano, symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles and chorus. In fact, his reputation as a composer grouped him with Beethoven and Bach as one of the three Bs of music, in other words one of the greatest figures of classical music. As a matter of fact, Brahms worked with leading performers such as Clara Schumann and Joseph Joachim. As a result, many of his works became staples of the modern repertoire for their uncompromising perfectionism.
