About the Event
Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Berlin's breathtaking Philharmonie Berlin for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of jazz music.
For over 20 years, the Brass Band Berlin has been thrilling audiences in Germany's largest concert halls. Under the motto 'Swinging Christmas', the band invites you to this year's Christmas concert in the Philharmonie's Kammersaal. With its extensive programme of American Christmas repertoire, including legendary titles such as White Christmas, Jingle Bells, Winter Wonderland and Rudolph the Red‐Nosed Reindeer, Brass Band Berlin entertains audiences from 8 to 80 years old, with the musicians' musical brilliance and technical perfection being particularly stirring. But of course there are also fun titles that are not explicitly part of the Christmas repertoire, such as the 'swing classics' like 'Rhyhtm is Our Business', 'In the Mood' or 'Sing, Sing, Sing' by Benny Goldman. The 11 members of the Brass Band Berlin are all soloists of the best orchestras in Berlin. With their perfect and virtuoso arrangements and the humorous moderations of conductor Thomas Hoffman, Swinging Christmas will be an entertaining and joyful Christmas concert for the whole family.
The Philharmonie is a concert hall opened in 1963 in West Berlin. It is considered the musical heart of the German capital, as well as the new urban centre after the fall of the infamous Berlin Wall. Its distinctive bright yellow exterior and unusual tent‐like shape quickly made it a city landmark. The surprising design and architecture were initially viewed negatively by many, but the Philharmonie is now considered a model for concert halls worldwide. The architect, Hans Scharoun, aimed to design a concert hall in which the focal point — the musicians on the concert platform — is equally visible from every seat, an aim that gave rise to the hall's unusual shape. Since its inauguration, the Berliner Philharmonie has hosted numerous concerts, often featuring acclaimed soloists and conductors.
