Brandenburg Summer Concerts: Freedom and survival: The Academic Youth Symphony Orchestra 'Slobozhansky' from Kharkiv

About the Event

Brandenburg Summer Concerts bring an important Ukrainian orchestra to Brandenburg: the Kharkiv Youth Symphony Orchestra. Remarkable, despite all the hardships of war, is the program that the orchestra has chosen with the German‐Ukrainian conductor Igor Budinstein: 'Le Tombeau de Couperin', each individual movement dedicated to the memory of a fallen friend of Ravel's, 'Finlandia', written in the context of the protest movement against increasing Russian influence, 'Les Préludes' as a hymnic‐ironic quotation to the power of music and finally Beethoven's freedom symphony, the 'Eroica'. A worthy setting for this musical event is provided by one of the most beautiful concert halls in Brandenburg. The concert hall 'Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach' is the church of the former Franciscan monastery, which stood on the banks of the Oder River in the second half of the 13th century and was the first church in the former GDR to be converted into a concert hall.
