Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo: Tchaikovsky 5th Symphony
About the Event
Experience the enchanting melodies of classical music by renowned composers Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Franz Joseph Haydn at the esteemed Auditorium Fondazione Cariplo in Milan. This highly‐anticipated concert promises to transport you to a world of harmonious bliss.
Similar to Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, his Fifth Symphony also explores the concept of fate. The Fifth Symphony builds upon the cyclical principle of the recurring idea, or motto, in a more profound manner. Composed in a relatively short time frame between May and October 1888, the piece premiered in Petersburg on November 5th of the same year under the baton of Tchaikovsky himself. The initial reception of the symphony was modestly successful. Interestingly, Tchaikovsky had a somewhat negative opinion of the piece in comparison to his Fourth Symphony, although he later revised his judgment after repeated performances. Nonetheless, he still held a relatively low opinion of the finale.
A unifying theme connects all four movements of this composition. Introduced by the clarinet in the low register at the beginning of the introductory Andante, this theme is intended to convey, according to Tchaikovsky, 'a complete resignation in the face of fate.' Prepare to be captivated by the seamless integration of musical ideas and emotions that Tchaikovsky masterfully weaves throughout this symphony.
