Radio Filharmonisch Orkest
Orchestra
The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra was re-founded in the aftermath of World War II, rapidly achieving public and cultural significance both at home and abroad. The orchestra is regularly heard on the Netherlands Public Broadcasting Corporation's Saturday Matinee and Sunday Morning concerts from Amsterdam's famous Concertgebouw and from Utrecht on Friday evenings. The orchestra of choice for many world premieres of contemporary works and landmark recordings, the ensemble is also known for its varied and often intriguing programming, including concert performances of opera. Winners of multiple international awards, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra occasionally tours abroad, to rapturous receptions. Karina Canellakis has been the RFO's Chief Conductor since 2019, following in the footsteps of many illustrious predecessors.
