From the time of its inception in 1974, the Paris Regional Council and the Ministry of Culture assigned to the Orchestre National d’Ile de France the mission of bringing orchestral music to the entire Paris Region, with a further specific aim of reaching and developing new audiences.
The variety of musical programmes presented by the musicians of the Orchestre National d’Ile de France — in as many as 100 concerts every year — reflects the wide interests of our audiences. The youthfulness and openness that characterise the Orchestre National d’Ile de France (and which fulfil part of its mission) have established it amongst the most dynamic and innovative of today’s symphony orchestras, with new musicians joining its ranks year after year.
French music is obviously at the core of the orchestra’s repertoire. The players' enthusiasm for this repertoire is reflected in the subtlety and refinement of the orchestra’s sound, a quality still cherished by French orchestras today.
