John Neumeier

Conductor, Choreographer

The American dancer, choreographer and Ballet director has spent the majority of his career in Germany, where he was Director and Principal Choreographer of Hamburg Ballet and Artistic Director of Ballet at the Hamburg Opera until 2024. Alongside this work, he has been General Director and Artistic Supervisor of the German National Youth Ballet since its foundation in 2011. As a choreographer, Neumeier has created over 170 works, with his dance interpretations of Shakespeare's plays and re-creations of many of the seminal 19th Century ballet canon works such as 'The Nutcracker' attracting particular critical acclaim. Neumeier's creations often draw on music from beyond the ballet canon, exploring operatic and orchestral music through the medium of dance.
