Manfred Honeck

The Austrian conductor began his musical career as a violinist and viola player with the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna Staatsoper before turning to conducting. A protegé of Claudio Abbado, he began his conducting career with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, followed by a series of prestigious engagements with many of Europe's leading orchestras and opera houses. Since 2007, Honeck has been the Musical Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, winning several international awards with the orchestra, including two Grammys. Known for his distinctive and insightful readings and exceptional musicianship, Manfred Honeck holds several additional positions with orchestras and festivals and regularly appears as a Guest Conductor in opera houses and concert halls around the globe.
