The celebrated German conductor is particularly associated with the operas of Richard Wagner, but has a wide-ranging repertoire that has seen him conduct many of the world's greatest orchestras. Now General Music Director at Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden, and chief conductor of the Berlin Staatskapelle, Thielemann conducted the Vienna Philharmonic's annual New Year's Concert in 2021 and 2024 and has long-standing relationships with the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals as well as Dresden's Staatskapelle.
