The vocal ensemble gained critical acclaim in its homeland as early as in 1971, the year of its foundation. The great breakthrough came with the Guido d'Arezzo International Competition, at which the choir won two medals, and its conductor, Polyansky, received the special prize for best conductor. The door into the world opened wide: the ensemble toured all over Russia as well as internationally, mostly across Europe. The critics praised the choir’s broad and diverse repertoire, the immaculate vocal and choral technique, the astounding synergy of voices, the crystal intonation and attention to vocalisation. The choir with “the highest culture and professionalism” and “noble, ideally balanced sound” today ranks among the finest Russian ensembles.
