Amleto at Teatro Filarmonico di Verona
Verona, Teatro Filarmonico — main
About the Event
Experience outstanding musicians performing Faccio's masterwork in the unique atmosphere of the Teatro Filarmonico.
A highly anticipated production in 2020 and canceled due to the pandemic is Hamlet, the artistic summa of Verona‐born Franco Faccio (1840‐1891), a composer and conductor much admired by the top musicians of the time who died prematurely. The opera, based on Shakespeare's most famous title, boasted a libretto by Arrigo Boito and great acclaim at the time of its debut but was never revived in Italy.
The four performances constitute the first Italian performance of the opera in contemporary times in the new Fondazione Arena staging, directed by Paolo Valerio, a Verona‐based talent and former director of Teatro Stabile, with set and projection design created by Ezio Antonelli. On the podium will be 27‐year‐old Alessandro Bonato, also from Verona, principal conductor of the Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, the youngest with this role among all Italian Concert Orchestral Institutions.
