Luka Juhart, Patrick & Thomas Demenga

About the Event

An original ensemble of musicians sharing the desire for exploration of new sonic horizons. The programme includes a melange of original compositions (T. Hosokawa, T. Demenga) and new arrangements of popular compositions from the world’s musical heritage.

One of the most promising young Slovenian musicians, accordionist Luka Juhart received a number of prestigious awards already while a student in Germany. He has performed as a soloist or member of renowned ensembles at illustrious international festivals, such as the BBC Proms, Klangspuren, Transit Festival and Donaueschingen. Devoting special attention to new music, Juhart has premiered a number of works by Slovenian composers (U. Rojko, V. Globokar, V. Žuraj), and performed works by international composers to great acclaim (T. Larcher, K. Huber, V. Heyn).

Cellist Patrick Demenga is one of the world’s most sought‐after soloists. Shortly after graduation Demenga realised his ideal of working with great musical personalities, thus sparking off reciprocal musical debate and summoning his exceptional expressive strength. The artist has premiered pieces by such renowned composers as Isang Yun, Alexander Knaifel, Barry Guy, Sally Beamish, Heinz Holliger and Gerhard Schedl, and has forged creative partnerships with numerous internationally acclaimed conductors, soloists and orchestras, such as Camerata Bern, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica etc..

Soloist, composer, and teacher Thomas Demenga ranks among some of the most compelling cellists and musicians of our time. Demenga’s artistic work is determined by intensive confrontation with different historical eras and styles of interpretation and composition. He dedicates himself with particular intensity to new music and is also active as an improviser. In 1991 he was the first Swiss composer to be awarded first prize for his composition Solo per Due by the congress of Tribune Internationale des Compositeurs. In August 2000, he was composer‐in‐residence at the Davos Festival, and “artiste étoile” of the 2003 Lucerne Festival.
