Italy through foreign eyes: Myung‐Whun Chung

About the Event

Hear the orchestra of La Scala in Mendelssohn, Prokofiev and Rossini.

Mendelssohn's "Italian" Symphony was written by the German composer on a visit to Naples. The most famous couple from Verona – Romeo & Juliet – were depicted musically by Russian Prokofiev, who was almost certainly thinking of the English writer Shakespeare's version.

This international concert starts with La Scala's orchestra playing music by the Italian opera composer, Rossini: the famous overture from his opera William Tell (about the folk hero from Switzerland).
