Ernani: Giuseppe Verdi

About the Event

Giuseppe Verdi entered into the great world of opera in 1842 with his opera Nabucco. Literally overnight, he became a respected composer with the prospects of a successful career. Soon, he transformed the knightly drama Hernani written by Victor Hugo into an operatic composition. Enjoy this production at the National Moravian‐Silesian Theatre this season.

Set in the 16th century Spain, it is a story of three rivals fighting to gain not only political power, but also the love of a beautiful woman. Just like Nabucco, this musically inventive opera lacks neither inner nationalistic choruses nor widely appreciated bel canto arias. The opera will be performed to commemorate the 200th birthday of the composer.
