The Oper Leipzig will present Verdi's "Macbeth" in a new production directed by Peter Konwitschny this season.

Based on Shakespeare's famous Scottish drama with the same title, Verdi's music gives the story of "Macbeth" a fast-paced vitality which is amusing, entertaining and moving. As in "Aida", "Traviata" and "Rigoletto", Verdi emphasises the humane and amiable traits of those characters who are outcasts in soceity. Verdi's adaptation of "Macbeth" focuses on the witches and the powerful kings who must suffer their own weakness - their rise and fall has long been prepared in the witches' kitchen...

The opera will be performed in Italian with German sirtitles.
