Rossini's Barber of Seville is and remains one of the most beloved masterpieces of the repertoire, to be considered the quintessential opera buffa.

The Barber of Seville (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioacchino Rossini with a libretto by Cesare Sterbini. The libretto was based on Pierre Beaumarchais's comedy, which was originally an opera comique.
