About the event
Paul Moser, chief conductor since 1997, and his orchestra specialize in performing the works of Austria's two most famous composers: W.A. Mozart and Johann Strauss. The present leaders of this orchestra are renowned violinists who have performed as soloists with many of the world's leading orchestras. The Vienna Residence Orchestra is one of the best chamber orchestras of Vienna's music world today. Together with opera singers and ballet dancers, they will take you on a journey back in time to the days of Imperial Vienna, performing Viennese classics in Rococo and Biedermeier costumes.
The Vienna Residence Orchestra, a Viennese chamber orchestra with a long tradition, was founded to perform the music of the "Wiener Klassik" in its purest form. The numerous concert series offered by this orchestra in the last few decades have taken place at some of the most beautiful palaces in Vienna. The programs have consisted of works from Mozart to Johann Strauss, played by ensembles of 10 to 40 musicians. In 1991, the orchestra was appointed as the official representative of the City of Vienna in the festivities commemorating the bicentenary of Mozart's death and also performed a number of concerts at the "Vienna International Festival".
In 1992 the world renowned Rudolf Nurejev became the first guest conductor of the orchestra. Nureyev and the Vienna Residence Orchestra gained sensational success throughout Europe. Outstanding international artists have performed as soloists with the Vienna Residence Orchestra: Rainer Küchl, leader of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Jochen Kowalski, the star counter tenor, conductors such as Arild Remmereit (now principal conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra), Giuseppe Lanzetta, Herbert Roggenburg and many more. The Vienna Residence Orchestra has frequently been a guest orchestra at well-known major international festivals. Their international career has taken them to cities within Europe such as Paris, Berlin, Rome, Varese, Ravello, Deauville, Athens, Budapest, Brussels and also as far afield as Montevideo and Mexico. In Vienna they have performed repeatedly at the world famous "Musikverein". Today the Vienna Residence Orchestra is one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world.
