Orchestre de Paris, Goerne, Zhidkova, von Dohnányi: Mendelssohn, Bartók

About the Event

Open the door into the Orchestre de Paris and the dark reaches of the soul with baritone Matthias Goerne and mezzo‐soprano Elena Zhidkova as they  perform Bartók's riveting "Bluebeard's Castle." In dramatic counterpoint is Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4, all under the direction of the masterful Christoph von Dohnányi.

Never has a piece of music called so much into question as Bartók's  "Bluebeard's Castle" -- a piece that draws the listener into a dark and mysterious world. Standing in titillating contrast to the universe created for Bluebeard by Bartók is Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4, the composition of an exhuberant young man at large in Europe. This is an evening for the music aficionado with an eye to adventure.
