"Die Entführung aus dem Serail" (The Abduction from the Seraglio or Il Seraglio) is one of Mozart's most entertaining Singspiel in three acts, and was premiered at the world-renown Burgtheater in Vienna 1782.

The beautiful Spanish Constanza, her maid Blonde and the servant Pedrillo are captured after a piracy, and brought to a slave-trade market. Fortunately, Pasha Selim acquires the three captives and brings them to his palace.
After several months, the nobleman Belmonte, Constanza's worried finance, receives a letter by the servant Pedrillo and therefore knows the place where the three are captured. He sails towards the palace somewhere along the Mediterranean coast to rescue Constanza, Blonde and Pedrillo.

The German libretto is by Christoph Friedrich Bretzner with adaptations by Gottlieb Stephanie.
