ABOUT THE EVENT

Dan Deacon returns to the Ecstatic Music Festival after last year’s sold-out show, this time writing a series of new works for acclaimed chamber groups NOW Ensemble (“a deft young group gaining attention,” New Yorker) and the Calder Quartet (“outstanding,” New York Times), both for the individual ensembles and for the two together in a mini-chamber orchestra.

This winter, the second annual Ecstatic Music Festival will feature nearly 150 performers and composers from different musical backgrounds who are re-defining music today. In 11 collaborative concerts – all with first performances of new works – the festival will put its finger on the pulse of contemporary “post-classical” music, where lines between genres are blurred and audiences are equally likely to find classically-trained instrumentalists performing in downtown clubs and non-traditional venues as well as concert halls.

Experience an engaging concert at a festival that is both of and about the present musical moment, at Merkin Concert Hall in the heart of New York City.

A New Sounds ® Live Presentation Hosted by WNYC's John Schaefer
