Dopo il successo da record ottenuto nelle recenti edizioni del Festival, “Aida” torna in scena adornata di “cristallo”.
Stefano Poda racconta la storia di Verdi con un gioco senza precedenti di luci, trasparenze e colori, fondendo l’Antico Egitto con l’alta moda e l’arte contemporanea, con risultati originali, accattivanti e abbaglianti.
L’antico Egitto trova una cornice contemporanea nell’arena di epoca romana, mentre l’immensa partitura di Verdi, al tempo stesso lirica e drammatica, si snoda fino al suo tragico epilogo.
«Aida» è un’opera in quattro atti composta da Giuseppe Verdi, su libretto di Antonio Ghislanzoni.
Atto I
Ramfis, sommo sacerdote d’Egitto, comunica a Radamès che la guerra con gli etiopi sembra inevitabile. Radamès spera di essere scelto come comandante egiziano, sognando sia la vittoria sia Aida, la schiava etiope di cui è segretamente innamorato. Aida, che ricambia l’amore di Radamès, è la figlia del re etiope Amonasro, identità che tiene nascosta ai suoi rapitori egiziani.
Entra Amneris, la figlia del Faraone. Anche lei ama Radamès, ma teme che Aida possa essere la sua rivale. Entra il Faraone, con il Sommo Sacerdote e l’intera corte, alla notizia che gli etiopi stanno marciando su Tebe. Il re dichiara guerra e nomina Radamès capo dell’esercito.
Rimasta sola, Aida è combattuta tra l’amore per suo padre, per la sua patria e per Radamès.
Radamès viene nominato comandante in capo. Gli egiziani pregano per la vittoria e per la protezione dei loro guerrieri.
Atto II
Si festeggia la vittoria di Radamès, ma Amneris dubita dell’amore di Radamès e sospetta che Aida sia innamorata di lui. Quando Aida entra nella sala, Amneris le mente, dicendole che Radamès è morto in battaglia. Sconvolta e affranta, Aida confessa il suo amore per Radamès. Amneris è furiosa e giura vendetta contro Aida.
Radamès ritorna e le truppe marciano trionfanti in città. Il Faraone dichiara che Radamès potrà avere tutto ciò che desidera. I prigionieri etiopi vengono condotti sul palco in catene, tra cui il re Amonasro. Amonasro proclama agli egiziani che il re etiope è stato ucciso in battaglia, e i prigionieri implorano pietà dal re egiziano, ma Ramfis e i sacerdoti egiziani chiedono la morte dei prigionieri. Rivendicando la ricompensa promessa dal re, Radamès implora pietà per i prigionieri. Il re esaudisce il desiderio di Radamès, dichiarando che Radamès sarà il suo successore e sposerà Amneris. Aida e Amonasro rimarranno in ostaggio per garantire che gli etiopi non si vendichino della loro sconfitta.
Atto III
Alla vigilia delle nozze di Amneris e Radamès, Aida attende fuori dal Tempio di Iside per incontrare Radamès. Amonasro appare e ordina ad Aida di scoprire dove si trova l’esercito egiziano. Aida accetta con riluttanza.
Amonasro si nasconde dietro una roccia e ascolta Aida e Radamès. Radamès giura che sposerà Aida e Aida lo convince a fuggire con lei. Radamès suggerisce un percorso sicuro, rivelando così la posizione del proprio esercito. Amonasro esce dal nascondiglio e rivela la propria identità. Radamès si rende conto di aver involontariamente svelato al nemico un segreto militare cruciale.
Amneris e Ramfis escono dal tempio e chiamano le guardie imperiali. Amonasro estrae un pugnale, ma Radamès lo disarma. Ordinando ad Amonasro di fuggire con Aida, Radamès si consegna alle guardie imperiali, che lo arrestano come traditore.
Atto IV
Amneris ordina alle guardie di condurle Radamès e gli chiede di negare le accuse, ma lui rifiuta. Ramfis enuncia le accuse, Radamès rifiuta di difendersi e viene condannato a morte. Amneris protesta sostenendo che Radamès è innocente e implora pietà, ma lui viene condannato a essere sepolto vivo.
Radamès è stato rinchiuso in una cripta buia. Sente un rumore e poi vede Aida, che si è nascosta nella cripta per morire insieme a Radamès. Accettano il loro terribile destino e dicono addio alla Terra e ai suoi dolori. Sopra la cripta, Amneris piange e prega la dea Iside. Gli amanti muoiono l’uno tra le braccia dell’altra mentre i sacerdoti, fuori scena, pregano il dio Ftha.

Arena di Verona
L’Arena di Verona è il terzo anfiteatro romano ancora in piedi per dimensioni. Costruita intorno al 30 d.C., l’Arena è anche tra gli anfiteatri meglio conservati di quel periodo. Le sue dimensioni gigantesche (140 metri di lunghezza e 100 metri di larghezza) e una capienza di oltre 30.000 spettatori le assicurano un ruolo dominante nella parte settentrionale di Piazza Bra. L’eccellente acustica e la posizione favolosa ne fanno una sede ideale per spettacoli lirici su larga scala. Il monumento fu riadattato come teatro durante il Rinascimento e nel 1913 ebbe inizio la tradizione dell’opera all’Arena di Verona con una rappresentazione dell’«Aida» di Giuseppe Verdi.
Giuseppe Verdi
Giuseppe Verdi fu un compositore d’opera italiano. Fin da giovane, grazie all’aiuto di un mecenate, ricevette una formazione musicale e ben presto dominò il panorama operistico italiano. Infatti, già all’età di trent’anni, era diventato uno dei compositori d’opera più influenti dell’intero panorama classico. Le sue opere più famose sono *Il Trovatore*, *Rigoletto* e *La Traviata*. Inoltre, grazie ai proventi delle sue opere di successo, riuscì ad affermarsi come proprietario terriero e a dedicarsi alla sua vita privata. Tuttavia, tornò presto sulla scena con la sua nuova opera di grande successo, *Aida* (1871), e con tre capolavori: *Otello*, il *Requiem* e *Falstaff*.

This event was one of the best experiences of my 80 years. The setting , the music, the choreography and the performers far exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere could not be achieved anywhere else in my opinion. If I lived closer I would attend every performance.

Wunderbare Sitzplätze, das Bühnenbild war leider nicht komplett aufgebaut. Die Oper war fantastisch durchgeführt. Getränke mehr als 500 ml müssen abgegeben werden.

While the principles were good, the choreography and set were awful. Large numbers of ‘extras’ dressed in tin foil walking around to no purpose, constantly distracting from the music and action, all with a pointless ‘hand of fate’ billowing in the background. This was spectacle without meaning. Pretentious without purpose.

E’ stata una esperienza unica, emozionante e coinvolgente. La scenografia molto particolare ma con riferimenti all’egitto, innovativa, che ci trasportava in una realtà diversa ma altrettanto emozionante. Il libretto, rispettato fedelmente capì bile coadiuvato da una orchestra perfetta, magnifica così come gli interpreti tutti ed i figuranti: spettacolo incredibile

Es war ein außergewöhnliches und einzigartiges Erlebnis, dass wir nicht vergessen werden. Die Inszenierung war fantastisch, obwohl wir mehr auf die klassischen Darbietungen wert legen! Also Top Aufführung!! Was ich anmerken möchte, dass kurz vor 21:00 Uhr immer noch Publikum um her schwirrte und Plätze suchte. Das fand ich sehr störend. Die Bestuhlung mit vorher gekauften Kissen ist auszuhalten, obwohl alles äußerst eng ist! Etwas mehr Beinfreiheit wäre wünschenswert! Unverständlicherweise gibt es tatsächlich Menschen, die meinen mit Kindern im Alter von ca. 4‐8 Jahren in eine Oper wie Aida gehen zu müssen und dann mit den müden Kindern die Darbietung früher verlassen mussten und das, aufgrund des Metallaufbaus, sehr geräuschvoll und störend war!

The same comment as for Nabucco ! . It is a spectacle but not any more an opera . Anna Netrpko was anounced in the programm but we had an other soprano! Not so good . The tenor was the best ! The other singers not so good . The orchestra also not so good ! I was a little disappointed . Of course I invited my hole family and the youngers appricieted the “spectacle “ .

Die Umsetzung Aufführung war phantastisch allerdings sind die Sitzgelegenheiten (mit Ausnahme der sehr teuren Sitze im Parkett) eine Zumutung! Schmale, kurze und steil gewinkelte Metallsitze in sehr enger Anordnung zum Vordermann sind für eine Dauer von 3 Stunden einfach nicht zeitgemäß! jeder der größer als 1,50m ist bekommt nach kurzer Zeit Probleme dort zu sitzen. Das schmälert natürlich die Erfahrung des Events ungemein! Wenn man nach 1,5 Stunden nicht mehr weiß wie man sich verlagern soll um halbwegs bequem zu sitzen, nutzt die tolle Inszenierung auf der Bühne nichts. Das Sitzkissen für 6€ hilft da nur minimal.

I was really surprised with all the cenography and special effects this production brought to a classical, upgrading opera to another level. Althought the acoustics of the arena was defying to the singers and orchestra, the visual effects, coreography of the choir surprised me act by act, kepting me breathless. Congratulations on the beautiful performance!
