Enjoy one of Gaetano Donizetti´s greatest operas, "Linda di Chamounix", with Diana Damrau and Juan Diego Flórez at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Melodramma semiserio in three acts with libretto by Gaetano Rossi and music by Gaetano Donizetti. The opera premiered on 19 May 1842 at the Kärnthnertortheater in Vienna and first performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu on 11 November 1847.

Linda di Chamounix is one of Gaetano Donizetti's mature operas. Labelled a «melodramma semiserio», with many traits of comédie larmoyante, it relates the love affair between Linda, a humble peasant's daughter from Chamonix in Savoy (French Alps), and the Viscount de Sirval, the nephew of a wicked feudal lord, who masquerades as «Carlo».  Linda is driven to despair when she learns who Carlo is and that he is engaged to marry a noble lady.

The opera contains one of the «mad scenes» («A consolarmi affrettati») that are so frequent in Donizetti's works (others occur in Lucia di Lammermoor and Torquato Tasso). It does arrive at a happy ending, however, with the two lovers singing a joyful duet.

Forty‐five minutes before each performance, an information session about the opera, open to all embers of the audience, will be held in the Foyer.

In some areas of the Gran Teatre del Liceu it is possible to be seated with a partially obstructed view of the stage. The Gran Teatre del Liceu recommends Zone 2 for the finest and completely unobstructed view of the performance. The stage is not visable from seats starting in row 2 of Zone 8.  A monitor is provided for following the performance in this section. Only available for operas.
