The french early Music conductor and harpsichordist Emmanuelle Haïm has been making waves and news in the classical music world with her top‐notch, spirited and fresh interpretations of Baroque music. A BBC Music Magazine cover story on Haïm was titled Belle of the Baroque. Two recent recordings on which Haïm conducts her group Le Concert D'Astrée have been enthusiastically received by the critics: Monteverdi: L'Orfeo – one of the worlds first operas, written in 1603 – and the masterpiece Purcell: Dido & Aeneas. The latter features such vocal superstars as tenor Ian Bostridge and mezzo Susan Graham in the lead roles, and even in the smaller roles, world‐renowned singers such as David Daniels were chosen.
