The Quartet Casals offers a highly varied programme at the Auditori in Barcelona.

The questions arising from the worldwide armed conflict continued to weigh in Shostakovich’s work at the time that he wrote the Quartet No. 4. Shostakovich took elements of the Jewish musical tradition – rhythms, melodies, textures – and used them as compositional and expressive material. In this concert, the Quartet Casals also performs the world premiere of Quartet No. 6 of Barcelona composer Miquel Roger, as well as Beethoven’s last quartet, whose formal simplicity contrasts with the other compositions of his late period. Finally, the programme includes a quartet by prolific Baroque composer Luigi Bocherini.
