The “curse of the ninth symphony" was fulfilled once again: Beethoven, Schubert, Bruckner… Mahler also died after composing his Ninth and it is no secret that the work speaks of death. Some have dubbed it a Requiem for being the last work finished by the composer. However Mahler also reflects his own life: all through the score, there are several musical quotations from his earlier works that can be read as a résumé of his existence as a creator.
