Nézet‐Séguin & Rotterdam Philharmonic: Mahler's 10th

演出简介

Yannick Nézet‐Séguin returns to the Concertgebouw with his Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Mahler's final symphony.

The summer of 1910 should have been the best summer of Gustav Mahler's life. He was just fifty, the heavy burden of the Vienna State Opera was taken from his narrow shoulders and New York smiled at him. For years, the composer struggled with the specter of a Ninth Symphony which inevitably would be the last. With the ninth in the pipeline, Mahler began composing a new symphony during the summer in South Tyrol. Mahler's Symphony No. 10 remained a sketch, and it wasn't until fifty years later, that Deryck Cooke completed the orchestration of this monumental symphony full of despair and loss.
