Liszt! In Every Respect: Gergely Bogányi, piano

演出简介

The Liszt Year would not be complete without a contribution from Hungary's youngest ever Kossuth Prize‐winning pianist, Gergely Bogányi.

Who could forget his feats of endurance last year, when he played a two‐day Chopin Marathon to mark the Year of Chopin, an achievement worthy of a place in the Guinness Book of Records. This time around, he will “only” be holding a solo recital on the uniquely sounding piano in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, taking advantage of the building's excellent acoustics to showcase a series of “self portraits” of Ferenc Liszt. Bogányi aims to highlight the phenomenon of the revolutionary Romantic genius able to create these portraits with a single instrument, the piano. Liszt pushed the instrument to its extremes in terms of tone, volume, polyphony and many other musical elements. Now in his late thirties, Gergely Bogányi has compiled a selection of works that show the composer as a Hungarian patriot in wonder at the landscapes and people he encounters on his travels: the magician and crowd favourite, the profoundly religious man inspired by literature, and the artist with the utmost respect for those that went before him. All this presents Bogányi with enormous technical challenges, but he considers Romantic music to be the natural milieu in which he lives his daily life.

His relationship with Ferenc Liszt the personality and artist was cemented by his victory in the International Liszt Piano Competition in 1996.
