L’Enfant et les sortilèges: Maurice Ravel

演出简介

Revisit the dreams and fantasies of childhood in a work ideal for introducing the young to opera. Gaël Darchen conducts and directs Ravel's vivid musical creation, based on a story by Colette.

Scolded for inattention to his homework, a small boy throws a destructive tantrum. His selfishness provokes the damaged toys and furniture and tormented animals to come to life and turn against him. Only when the boy tries to help a wounded squirrel do they relent, and return him to his mothers' arms.

Ravel's colorful score encompasses genres from jazz to the minuet, creating a lyric fantasy that provides a superb platform for the talents of the Maîtrise des Hauts‐de‐Seine, the children's chorus of the Opèra de Paris. Beyond the fun, this delightful and thought‐provoking reflection on childhood is an opera for young and old alike.
