An inspiration from Verlaine penned by Fauré and dedicated to the future wife of Debussy is offered today by a spectacular young ensemble…  and, in Chausson's deeply moving Chanson perpétuelle, the abandoned woman sings of her eternal distress.

The Piano Quartet No. 1 of Fauré, with the beauty of its themes and its sumptuous effects, is an essential example of the composer's magnificent art. Belgian composer Guillaume Lekeu had the briefest of careers: he died at age 24 of typhus, leaving behind just fifteen works -- including the Molto Adagio, which he wrote at 17. The work is based upon the words of Christ: "My soul is sorrowful even unto death."
