Khachatryan & Noseda: Bruch & Respighi

演出简介

The Orchestre de Paris includes Italian composer Ottorino Respighi in a program for the first time. Greatly appreciated in the 1920s and 1930s, Toscanini, in particular, championed him in America. But some of Respighi’s other admirers tarnished his reputation—Mussolini, for instance—and consigned him to a minor place in history.

The time has come, according to conductor Gianandrea Noseda, to hear this great composer again. Suggesting movement and light, Respighi is somewhat reminiscent of the young Strauss or early Debussy. His tableaux of Roman inspiration deserve our attention.

Max Bruch, Respighi’s composition teacher, also has a place on this program: his tremendously popular Violin Concerto will be performed by the equally admired Sergey Khachatryan. As integral a part of the repertoire as the concertos of Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky, Bruch’s famed violinistic showpiece combines a dramatic grip on the listener with a rhythmic ardor inspired by Gypsy music.
