Hungarian National Philharmonic & Szeged Contemporary Ballet

演出简介

Watch brand‐new ballet pieces, created to accompany dramatic works by Richard Strauss.

Tamás Juronics, Kossuth Prize winner, has created new dances for these neglected pieces by one of the 20th century's greatest composers.

This occasion features a work which has suffered a cruel fate even by these standards as it barely appears on concert programmes anywhere in the world. The ballet The Legend of Joseph, which relates a biblical story, was commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev, the impresario of the Paris‐based Ballets Russes, and premièred exactly a century ago in the last month of peacetime prior to the First World War, with the composer conducting. The piece thus became one of a group of classic compositions – besides works by Stravinsky, Ravel, Prokofiev and de Falla – which have Diaghilev’s encouragement to thank for their creation.
