Bluebeard's Castle is a symbolist journey to the depths of the mind, underpinned by the effective music of Béla Bartók. The sinister secrets and Bartók's relentless score make this one of the most captivating works in the opera repertoire.

Strauss' four orchestral songs were his way to say goodbye to life. A reflection of the sublime beauty of his work. In perfect synchrony with the melancholic character of the music, the poems deal with the coming death and a serene acceptance of fate.
