Discover the music that accompanied King Louis XIV's daily ceremony of retiring to bed. Marin Marais, François Couperin, and other famous composers of the era wrote music for the bedtime ritual known as le coucher du Roy.

Louis XIV used music as an instrument for propaganda. He established a set of ceremonies and conventions organizing his daily life, and music accompanied him at all times. Lutenist Thomas Dunford and harpsichordist Jean Rondeau selected the most beautiful works that sung the "Sun King" to sleep.
