Scenic Bergen: Port to Port History & Alleys Walking Tour
duration: 2 hours cancellation_summary: Cancel up to 24 hours beforehand for a full refund meeting_point: The "Bird Wall" Street Artwork at Borgesmauet 4. max_age: 99 group_size: 16 accessibility: Cobblestone on hills but no stairs description: NOTE — this tour is perfect for those coming into Bergen on a cruise ship, as it starts very close to where the cruise ships dock (300 metres away or a three‐minute walk). This tour begins at the "Bird Wall" street art, one of the most iconic pieces in Bergen city centre. This artwork is located close to downtown Bergen and the cruise ship terminal. It is also the entrance to one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in Bergen — Nøstet. Once considered the most dangerous part of town, today, this neighbourhood has Bergen's best‐preserved homes — some are over 300 years old. It is also regarded as the most beautiful part of Bergen, and your guide will take you into our favourite hidden alleys. We then make our way up to the neighbourhood of Nordnes, famous around Norway as one of the prettiest neighbourhoods. Here, we'll provide an insight into what it's like to live in Bergen today while also comparing it to the reputation Nordnes had in the past. Heading down to the medieval city centre, we'll pass Bergen's iconic fish market and provide some tips on the best seafood dishes. We cross over into the medieval centre, winding through narrow alleys that provide a fascinating insight into Bergen's trade history but are today known for their cool shops, cafes, and restaurants. This tour continues into Bryggen, Bergen's UNESCO World Heritage site. This is where, for 1,000 years, Norwegians and Germans have traded goods, primarily seafood products. These warehouses have stood for centuries and provide a unique perspective into medieval trade practices. The tour ends in front of Bryggen, a perfect spot to visit the museums, have lunch, do some shopping, or explore more of Bergen on foot. what_is_included: Our guides are authorised to work as guide in Bergen. check_in_details: Please be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the tour starts. We are unable to wait for latecomers, and you can't join the tour later on. what_to_bring: Bergen is notoriously a rainy city, so make sure you are well‐dressed and waterproof!

Nordnes: The Hidden Gem of Bergen Walking Tour
Looking for a unique walking tour in Bergen that takes you away from the busy crowded areas of Bryggen and the fish market? Discover one of the best‐kept secrets in the city with this walking tour of the Nordnes peninsula. Nordnes is a 1km (0.6 mile) long peninsula that stretches into Bergen harbour. While the Hanseatic League were dominating trade on Bryggen, Nordnes is where the Norwegian merchants developed their businesses. But Nordnes was also the centre of power in Bergen, and it was the city’s courthouse and execution site for hundreds of years. It's also where witches were burned in the 16th and 17th centuries. In the 19th century, it became a hub of sailors and red‐light district, with the narrow, dark alleys the perfect place to hide undercover activity. Today it is a popular (and expensive) neighbourhood with families, schools, and beautiful parks. We limit the group size as this tour is through a residential neighbourhood. You ask as many questions as you want!
