Experience a true gem of operatic history with Gounod's long‐forgotten opera, 'Cinq‐Mars', based on true events surrounding the death of Marquis de Cinq‐Mars.
Themes of rebellion, love, loyalty, and friendship are reflected in the inventive melodies and expressive orchestral passages of Gounod's historical opera. The tragic story tells of the Marquis de Cinq‐Mars, who sought to challenge Cardinal Richelieu out of loyalty to Louis XIII, and of the princess who seeks to save the Marquis from the gallows.
