CAPRIOLEN‐THE LINDENAUER PLACE REVEU

演出简介

Bold, frivolous and permissive, that's the Berlin of the golden twenties. In the city's vibrant nightlife, dance palaces and games halls, the magazine's theatres bewitch people with bright costumes, fast rhythms and resplendent eroticism, dazzling stars like Marlene Dietrich and Josephine Baker embody the wild dreams of the 1920s. People get into theaters, dance halls and bars, where red and snowy lips promise everything in dimly lit corners and the past has not yet passed. Tomorrow may never come, and yesterday does not exist.

A magical moment in a magical place. After World War I, everyone wants to celebrate, live, dance! There's a languid chill in the air, one that promises to fulfill dreams. The air exploded with cultural creativity: while American jazz and its fascinating swing inspired musicians and composers, the technical achievements in film opened up countless possibilities. The art group gathered around the corner from Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church at the Romanisches Café, discussing the future of art and society.

With his flying legs, his impressive art and the lively melodies of the Comedian Harmonists or Claire Waldoff, 'Capriolen' evokes the splendour of the 1920s and recalls the origins of show business. The handsome Gitta dreams of moving from Tiller Girl in the back row to the famous star of the magazine, and the music‐loving receptionist Paul secretly rehearses the great success in the basement of the Grand Hotel Berlin with his friends, which should give them a breakthrough. The paths of the two cross when king and theater director Herman Haller descends to the Grand Hotel to audition for his next show at the Admiralspalast. But neither Gitta nor Paul suspect that the entanglements on the road to the spotlight will reach them…..
