Carnegie Hall has played a vital role in the musical life of New York City since it was completed in 1891. William Burnet Tuthill designed the concert hall, which was commissioned by the wealthy industrialist and philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie. Practically every top classical music artist and ensemble in the world has performed in the excellent acoustics of Carnegie Hall.
