John Nelson conducts Beethoven's only Mass, the Missa Solemnis, a work made of sufferance. Beethoven composed this beautiful piece at a time when he was completely deaf and had just lost his brother. Even though the composer confessed his desire to commit suicide, his energy will eventually overcome his desperation.
