“Summer time and the livin’ is easy…” Unforgettable lines from George Gershwin’s legendary Broadway opera Porgy and Bess that describe the spirit of Grafenegg’s summer concerts perfectly. Set in the beautiful grounds of the Grafenegg chateau in lower Austria, this special evening celebrates the music of two composers rooted in African‐American music: Duke Ellington and George Gershwin.

Two of the first composers to write orchestra works grounded in the sounds, melodies, and feel of African‐American music, Gershwin and Ellington’s music explores the collision of worlds and social classes with unmatched finesse. Led by conductor John Axelrod, an all‐star line up of vocal talents supported by Chorus sine nomine will perform unforgettable works including Porgy and Bess, Harlem, and An American in Paris.
