Chamber music develop a close intimacy of shared musical experience for both — musicians and audience.

Because of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as "the music of friends." Even today, when most chamber music performance has migrated  to the concert hall, there are still many musicians, who continue to play chamber music for their own pleasure. Goethe described chamber music as "rational people conversing."
