__Enjoy two large symphonic poems by Richard Strauss at Barcelona's Auditori.__
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of his birth, the Barcelona Symphony orchestra perform the intense Don Juan and the Merry Pranks of Till Eulenspiegel, along with Tchaikovsky's spectacular Variations on a Rococo Theme and Fantasia by Lluís Benejam.__
At the age of 30, Strauss had already achieved fame all across Europe with his spectacular symphonic poems, of which the most admired is Till Eulenspiegel, humorously retelling the misdeeds of this picaresque character. Tchaikovsky's Variations give the cello soloist, in this case Asier Polo, a chance to display their virtuosic brilliance as well as control and expression in the melodic sections.
