Lars Vogt Plays Beethoven: Tonkünstler Orchestra

Pianist virtuoso Lars Vogt takes the stage with the Tonkünstler Orchestra in Beethoven's Second Piano Conceto. Mahler's Symphony No. 5 is on the second half of this generous program, conducted by Antonio Mendez.

Beethoven revised his concerto several times before he considered it ripe for performance. Mahler's fifth symphony was also reworked several times and Mahler complained about the fact that nobody seemed to understand it. This soon changed, and the work became one of Mahler's most popular. Luchino Visconti used the Adagietto of the symphony as opening music for 'Death in Venice' in 1971.
