De 'Kerk van Sint-Paulus binnen de muren' was de eerste niet-katholieke kerk die in Rome werd gebouwd na de eenwording van Italië. De kerk werd tussen 1873 en 1880 gebouwd als Anglicaanse basiliek in de wijk Castro Pretorio, Via Nazionale, Rome. De opvallende buitengevel is gebouwd in gotische stijl en wordt gekenmerkt door afwisselend rode en kalkstenen bakstenen. Vier spectaculaire mozaïeken van de Engelse prerafaëliet Edward Burne-Jones, in samenwerking met William Morris, vormen de kroon op het interieur van de kerk. Arendsogen zullen verschillende beroemde negentiende-eeuwse figuren zien die de vaders van de kerk voorstellen in de uitgebreide mozaïeken, waaronder de kunstenaar zelf, opmerkelijke donateurs en hun families, en Abraham Lincoln, Giuseppe Garibaldi en generaal Grant onder de 'Christian Warriors'. Op deze locatie worden veel prachtige klassieke evenementen gehouden, waaronder uitvoeringen van populaire opera's zoals La Traviata.
Giuseppe Verdi
Giuseppe Verdi was een Italiaanse operacomponist. Al op jonge leeftijd ontwikkelde hij een muzikale opleiding met de hulp van een mecenas en al snel domineerde hij de Italiaanse opera. Rond zijn 30e was hij een van de meest invloedrijke operacomponisten in de klassieke wereld. Zijn beroemdste opera's zijn Il Trovatore, Rigoletto en La Traviata. Bovendien kon hij zich met de inkomsten uit zijn succesvolle opera's vestigen als landeigenaar en zich richten op zijn privéleven. Hij keerde echter al snel terug met zijn nieuwe populaire werk Aida (1871) en drie meesterwerken: Otello, Requiem en Falstaff.
Giacomo Puccini
Giacomo Puccini was een Italiaanse operacomponist aan het einde van de 19e eeuw. Hij werd beschouwd als een van de grootste componisten van de Italiaanse Opera, na Verdi. Zijn vroege werken werden gekenmerkt door kenmerken van de traditionele 19e eeuwse romantische Italiaanse opera. Later ontwikkelde zijn stijl zich tot de realistische verismo stijl, die hem inspireerde tot het schrijven van zijn beroemdste meesterwerken en een van de belangrijkste exponenten van de stijl werd. Zijn bekendste werken La bohème (1896), Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904) en Turandot (1924) zijn allemaal populaire opera's die op de meest prestigieuze podia van de klassieke wereld worden gespeeld.
Gaetano Donizetti
Gaetano Donizetti was een Italiaanse componist uit het begin van de 19e eeuw. Hij was een van de belangrijkste componisten van de bel canto operastijl, samen met Gioachino Rossini en Vincenzo Bellini. In de loop van zijn carrière schreef Donizetti bijna 70 opera's, zowel komische als serieuze. Zijn eerste opmerkelijke succes kwam met een serieuze opera, Zoraida di Granata, die in 1822 in Rome werd gepresenteerd. Hierdoor maakte hij een grote impact op de Italiaanse en internationale operascène en verschoof de aandacht naar opera seria (opera's in adellijke en "serieuze" stijl). Tot zijn bekendste werken behoren echter komedies zoals L'elisir d'amore (1832) en Don Pasquale (1843).
Eduardo Di Capua
Eduardo di Capua was een Italiaanse componist aan het einde van de 19e eeuw. Zijn vader was musicus en introduceerde hem in de wereld van de muziek. Hij reisde met zijn vader naar veel Europese landen. Tijdens een van zijn reizen naar Oekraïne in 1898 componeerde hij samen met de dichter Giovanni Capurro de beroemde melodie "O sole mio". O sole mio zou een onofficieel, romantisch Italiaans volkslied worden. Grappig genoeg kon de dirigent van de fanfare tijdens de Olympische Spelen van 1920 in Antwerpen zogenaamd geen muziek vinden voor het echte Italiaanse volkslied en speelde hij in plaats daarvan "O Sole Mio".

The concert was very interesting and nice and the church is beautiful. The problem is that people that sit on central seats cannot see the tenors or the orchestra playing due to the plan of the church.

Bravo aux trois ténors qui savent allier technique, brio et humour pour des oeuvres que certes on connaît bien mais que l'on entend toujours avec plaisir en "live". Bravo aussi pour les instrumentistes, un superbe travail d'ensemble. Signé : une violoncelliste qui sait ce que cela implique comme travail de préparation ! En plus dans ce lieu superbe… avec un clin d'oeil pour les personnages des mosaïques, têtes de personnages célèbres du 19è siècle…

Enjoyed the performance and selection of music etc. However, the overall experience could be much better if performers used microphones attached to lapels. Also, extremely hot with no air‐conditioning. On a positive note the tenors did a good job of engaging the audience in Part two of the performance

The performance was good, it was uncomfortably cold, so some heating would have been welcome. Also an announcement to ask people not to take photos would have been very good . They were very distracting, but also the girl telling them to stop was also distracting.
