Bach, Brahms and Schütz: Concertgebouw Amsterdam

Over het evenement

The Thomanerchor from Leipzig is a boys' choir between 9 and 18 years old, who travel all over the world. This special choir has been part of the Thomas Church in Leipzig since 1212. The boys live, make music and go to school on their own Thomaner campus. They sing frequently in church, or as they do today with members of the Gewandhausorchester. The Leipzig Thomanerchor has always been home to great musicians — and J.S. Bach is the best known of them. For more than a quarter of a century he was 'Thomascantor', conductor of the choir, for which he frequently composed. Today the Thomanerchor sings four Bach motets, including the festive Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied. You will also hear work by Schein, an earlier Thomas Cantor, and Heinrich Schütz.
