Don Quixote belongs to the world classics of ballet and is based on Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s famous novel The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha. On the 26th of October in 1869, Marius Petipa’s ballet to the music of Ludwig Minkus was premiered at the Ballet of the Moscow Imperial Bolshoi Theatre.

The cheerful and joyous story of Don Quijote and his simple‐minded servant fighting against the injustice of the world, their adventures in pursuit of dreams and love, the Hispanic vitality are rendered to the audience in virtuous dance and beautiful music. The adventurous events are flavoured by the lyric love story of the village youth Basilio and Quiteria.

The ballet that has been premiered in 2007 is the fourth staging of Don Quixote’s adventures in the Estonian National Opera.
