In Holland Edita Gruberova was seldom to be heard in the concert halls. But internationally, the media highly praise her vocal splendour, with ‘Queen of the Bel Canto’, ‘Prima Donna Assoluta’ and ‘Königin der Koloraturen’ being only a few of the acclamations she has received. She has been at the top of her profession for almost forty years and has triumphed at the greatest opera houses of the world, including La Scala in Milan and the Opéra National in Paris. She is renowned for her performances of Zerbinetta, Maria Stuarda, Elisabetta and Donna Anna; she made her debut as Norma, the greatest of all bel canto roles for coloratura soprano, in 2003. In this final concert of the Holland Festival she will appear in a programme of selected arias that will include the Casta Diva from Norma and the Madness Scene Il dolce suono from Lucia di Lammermoor.
