Ravel's L'Heure Espagnole at the Opera de Lyon

イベント情報

Hear Ravel's one‐act opera at the Opéra National de Lyon conducted by Jonathan Stockhammer.

Ravel called his own work an opéra‐bouffe. For the score he used Spanish elements like jotas and habaneras which makes it one of several compositions in which Ravel was influenced by the Spanish tradition. It was first staged in a double‐bill with Massenet's Thérèse in 1911.

A musical comedy, a sparkling watchmaking, a fantasy and a naughty one, L'Heure espagnole is Ravel's first opera — a trial run, a masterstroke. A work full of brilliant musical and sound experiments, to which the staging of James Bonas and the magical images of Grégoire Pont will give their colours.
